About us, by us
Munich is one of the most attractive cities in Germany.
For tourists from all over the world, but also as a business location.
One attraction of the Bavarian capital is its well-developed, efficient public transport system, embracing the combined services of the Munich transport corporation (MVG), the private bus companies operating in the city as MVG’s partner, the Munich S-Bahn and the regional bus companies.
The Munich Verkehrsgesellschaft (MVG) has played, and still plays, an important role in this story of success as the operator of the Underground, buses and trams. Its strengths are modern, environmentally-friendly vehicles with disabled access, well-trained staff and extensive information and services. Altogether 576 Underground carriages, 95 trams and 231 buses from the MVG subsidiary Munich Stadtwerke GmbH (SWM), are deployed for the second largest community transport business in Germany. Added to these are 181 buses from private partner firms. In Munich you are only a few minutes away from the MVG because on a network of over 600 kilometres nearly every household stands within a 400 metre radius of an Underground, bus or tram stop!
The MVG as a strong partner in the Munich Verkehrs- and Tarifverbund (MVV) has grown into every nook and cranny of Munich. Without MVG and its 1.4 million passengers the famous style of the city on the Isar would not be what it is. And so should it stay.
